- Encourage vendors to reduce packaging whenever possible. Options
may include:
- Backhauling product packaging to the supplier for reuse
or recycling
- Shipping in bulk or reduced packaging
- Using vegetable-based inks for packaging printing
- Reusable product packaging
- Recycled content or recyclable packaging material
- Blanket-wrapping furniture, appliances and equipment
- Reusing pallets
- External deliveries. Develop
a closed-loop delivery system with frequent vendors. Have them
drop off your supplies in durable, returnable containers and pick
up those waiting from previous deliveries.
- Internal deliveries. Use reusable
and returnable containers (such as durable boxes and canvas bags)
for deliveries from the mail room, print shop and other distribution
points. Make sure they get back to their original department for
reuse. Reuse boxes from outside deliveries for internal distribution.
